ENT Specialist Doctor Singapore

Dr Gan Eng Cern is a fellowship trained Consultant Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) Surgeon. Before moving to private practice, he was the Chief Rhinologist (Nose and Sinus Subspecialist) at Changi General Hospital, Singapore. He obtained his subspecialty training in Rhinology and Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery at the world renowned St Paul’s Sinus Centre, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. He was also a Senior Clinical Lecturer at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore.

  • MBBS – Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia)
  • MRCS (Edin) – Member of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, United Kingdom

Training

Dr Gan obtained his medical degree from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. Subsequently, he completed his specialty training in Otorhinolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery (ENT) in Singapore. He attained his ENT specialist accreditation from the Ministry of Health of Singapore and the Singapore Medical Council. He was awarded the Health Manpower Development Award (HMDP) by Ministry of Health Singapore and underwent subspecialty training at St Paul’s Sinus Centre at University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada.

Throughout his career, Dr Gan has received numerous awards, a testament to his dedication and passion in educating medical students and ENT residents as well as in patient care, research and medical work. These include:

Research

Dr Gan practices evidence-based medicine and is an avid researcher. In 2014, his work in patient positioning during sinus surgery to minimize bleeding and improve surgical safety won him the prestigious 19thYahya Cohen Memorial Lectureship for best surgical paper in Singapore. He has received hospital grants for research and published in numerous peer-reviewed top international ENT journals (listed below). He was in the review committee for Eastern Health Alliance (EHA) Scientific Meeting Competition for best scientific paper in 2015 and 2016. Dr Gan is a journal article reviewer for the following medical journals:

Teaching

Dr Gan is a keen and patient teacher. He was involved in the teaching of medical students from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore as well as ENT Residents in Singapore.He was an examiner for the National University of Singapore Medical Student ENT exam. Together with the ENT Department at Changi General Hospital, Dr Gan organizes an annual nose and sinus cadaveric dissection course (Foundation Surgical Skills Course in Otolaryngology) for local and overseas ENT surgeons. He has been invited speaker and cadaveric dissection teacher in many local and international sinus surgery courses.
